Who's Who by Shirt Number - No. 6

Next up ...

SHIRT NO. 6

When Roy Race first broke into the first team in 1955 the Number 6 shirt was worn by BUSTER BROWN, who was Rovers' regular left-half for over ten seasons ...

When Buster retired early in the 1968/69 season he was replaced by England international LOFTY PEAK, who signed from Kingsbay and played a vital part of the Rovers defence for many seasons ...

After Lofty retired in 1979 the Number 6 shirt was taken by JIMMY SLADE (who had previously worn Number 5) ...

... not sure, but there may have been other players who appeared in the Number 6 shirt during the mid-'80s ...

Liverpool legend EMLYN 'CRAZY HORSE' HUGHES was signed to provide more experience and wore the Number 6 shirt for much of the 1985/86 season, playing as part of the 1986 Milk Cup winning team before leaving the club when his contract ended that summer ...

Following the death of Jimmy Slade during the Basran tragedy former England international defender JOHNNY 'HARD MAN' DEXTER was signed on a free transfer from Danefield, playing a key role in the new-look Rovers team for a number of seasons (before switching to left-back and the Number 3 shirt during the 1990/91 season) ...

Does anyone know of any other players who regularly wore the Number 6 shirt and in what seasons?

Oops! Think I made a mistake - Johnny Dexter signed from Burnside Athletic, not Danefield.

Anyone know who took over at Number 6 when Johnny switched to the left-back shirt in 1990/91?

I think the apprentice Alan Lynch had a spell in the side at number 6 during the 80's. Mark Butler also got the shirt at some stage.
