Player Focus: Wes Harper and Terry Spring

Wes Harper and Terry Spring were both promising young players who were promoted from the youth team during the 1987/88 season.

Can anyone tell me the shirt numbers worn / positions played by these players?

Spring was seen as the replacement for 'Cracker' Gray, who wore number 4,

however glancing thru the 88-89 season, I can see that Spring wore number 7 and Harper number 10.

Spring I would class as a defensive midfielder, while Wes was more of a central midfielder, (man who sits in the gap between midfield and attack.

Re: Player Focus: Wes Harper and Terry Spring

They both came into the side at the same time. They were YTS players who Roy had to promote into the first team when injuries hit his squad. They made their debut in 1988. Both went onto become Rovers regulars. Terry "Springo" Spring was the "Hit Man" in midfield. Perhaps a Steven Gerrard type of player. He was mentioned in the england B side which Roy managed (although his picture never appeared in the storyline) and was a regular "manager" for junior sides when they played in tournements. He was supposedly too hotheaded to be given the official position of coach. He took Gary Gunn under his wing when Gary first joined the Rovers. He left at the end of Roy's final season as a player. Wes Harper also came through the YTS programme and represented Rovers right up to the start of MOTD magazine. He was a wide attacking player and also played for Roy's england B side. During Rocky's early time in the first team (in the monthlies) Wes was one of the group of players that stuck up for Rocky when he was having trouble with Johnny Dexter - together with Paul Ntende and Tommy Goode.
