England were close enough to scoring a goal against Portugal though, and in the end penalties are always some kinda lottery. Well, if they'd won that lottery they'd be with the top 4 teams of the world and Eriksson would be a hero... that's football.nondisclosed_email@example.com (robvanderovers)Mon, 03 Jul 2006 17:18:16 +0000 Re: Englandhttps://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326656,from=rss#post326656https://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326656,from=rss#post326656Well now I have got over the disappointment of being knocked out yet again in the QF's I wonder what the next generation will bring. To me Eriksson wasn't a particularly good international manager - he didn't appear to be able to make the big decisions required against the very top sides. England shouldn't have much trouble with defeating smaller nations so whatever side Eriksson puts out will invarioubly win. Unfortunately against the best 8 sides in the world the winning team is the side that has just that - the best team. England were not a team - we were the best 11 individuals in the country. I felt Eriksson picked players on reputation and not on performance - especially current form. They were not really a team that played as a team. Also when games were tight he never seemed capable of changing the style or the personnel to get the required victory. Hopefully Mclaren will have a bit of Roy Race about him and have the confidence to pick the best team and make the required changes. Good luck Mclaren's England.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Grandad Gosden)Mon, 03 Jul 2006 06:48:24 +0000 Re: Englandhttps://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326655,from=rss#post326655https://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326655,from=rss#post326655Hopefully England go into the game expecting a hard game and not too over confident. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Grandad Gosden)Tue, 27 Jun 2006 11:14:41 +0000 Re: Englandhttps://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326654,from=rss#post326654https://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326654,from=rss#post326654Yeah, they'll miss some key players, won't they? Mind you, they're still a strong team. They played much better than Holland anyway, I think. Well, it's England's chance for revenge now! Remember EC 2004.nondisclosed_email@example.com (robvanderovers)Mon, 26 Jun 2006 17:10:49 +0000 Re: Englandhttps://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326653,from=rss#post326653https://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326653,from=rss#post326653What a great present for them to play against Portugal now!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nikos64)Mon, 26 Jun 2006 10:06:39 +0000 Englandhttps://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326652,from=rss#post326652https://btheroyracetalkin.runboard.com/p326652,from=rss#post326652England now in the last 8!
