Re: "Riverside" United - Champ to Football Comic Libraries

Rodney Leagre
Was an 18 year old university student who started in the reserves as a young attacking left back. He out played big head Terry Evans in a pre season 1st team vs reserves game. Terry Evans broke his leg in this practice match after a challenge by Leangre. So because Rodney was very quick Joe Pearson tried him as a right winger. He was sensational and scored and made a lot of goals for half a season, much to Terry Evans dismay (and mickey taking from Hedgehog) Unfortunately Rodney Leangre was involved in a horrific car accident and died before the season was over.

Henry Neal & Clive Overgan (based on Des Walker as he was very quick)

They were also in this practice match and although Neal made it into the 1st team he was not a regular. Obergan on the other hand was a regular and was the main stay at the back with John Regan or Benny Grainger as his partner. 2 or 3 season later Obergan signed for Southpool (Nicklish's old team) for about 1 million.

Frank Purvis
Understudy to Charlie Barr, but was NOT before Charlie. Charlie look over from John Clement (Reserve) and England International Bill Shenton.

Larry Watson
Took over from Brian Stokes at right back but was originally a centre back.

Tim Stevens
Started with the club as a 13 year old and preferred playing at centre back (but was a bit too short) He ended up being used as a bit of a untility player (right back, right midfield, right wing, but mostly played at right back.)

Bob Banks
Joined from Leston Villa as a striker to replace N Ireland international Johnney King who had joined an Italian Club for a Million pounds. Only lasted a season before being transferred somewhere.

Hope that helps!

Ian Stewart
Right back who was a Scottish international who started in the reserves. Was transferred to Princes Park for £1.2 Million in a deal that saw Princes Park striker Jason McBraid join United. Two seasons later was resigned by Joe Pearson.

Sammy Tricker Smart
Won the Golden boot one season, but was a player in the Teddy Sheringham role (but not as old)

Dean Hunter
Striker who made it into the first team from the reserves to replace Kevin Nicklish who retired.

Ivan Zenovic
Russion international goalkeeper who was signed to replace Charlie 'Iron' Barr who retired.

Alan 'Clobber' Harris was a centre half who was a bit dirty but could also play a bit.

Daniel Amachi
Nigerian born and eventual Nigerian international came through the reserves along with Dean Hunter. Started as a winger to replace Josh 'Cuppa' Tee, but reverted to a main striker. Very powerful (like Drogba, or in ROTR world Paul 'Delroy' Ntende)
Was eventually sold for £3 Million against Joe Pearson's wishes.

Lee Moxton
Left Winger made it from the reserves into the 1st team

Fabio Rossi
Italian International Playmaker (N0.8)

Tom Kleiner
Striker/Midfielder made it from the reserves into the 1st team

Joe Lusk
Striker/Midfielder made it from the reserves into the 1st team

Juan Carranza
Argentinian International super star signed for a record fee of £30 Million. Took ages to score his 1st United goal, but once he did he scored 20 odd goals a season, until he was transfered back an Italian club.

Dave Hardy
Goalkeeper 6 foot 5 inches tall, took over from Scottish international Kenny Fraser. Is current United No.1

Hope that helps Grandad.

Brentville Albion - you are a genious! Fabulous player profiles there! The only one i would slightly disagree with is Sammy "Tricker" Smart, who really was a basic goal machine i always thought of like an Andy Cole type, rather than Teddy Sheringham.

I take it you've got all the United Football Comic Libraries then from your knowledge of the players? I'm missing one or two, ive got them all apart from:

FOUR GAMES FROM GLORY No. 23
SIMPLY THE BEST No. 167
RIVALS No. 273
TAYLOR MADE No. 281
BEAT THE DROP No.297

VIRTUAL REALITY No.311

TWO UNITEDS No.339

THE OTHER UNITED No.343

I have a complete list (from DC Thompson them selves) emoticon

Hi Ridders,

If you can give me the entire list from DC Thompson I'll tell you which ones I'm missing. I don't think I've got all of them, and I didn't read the all the Champ stories (I think I missed the first 4 or 5.)

If I've got the ones you haven't got, do you want me to fill you in on the story lines? Perhaps you could do the same for me on the ones I haven't got.

Do you remember a striker called Johnney West who played for United?

Brentville.

Dean Hunter sounds like he should have been a midfield enforcer and energetic player in the Jimmy Slade, Carl Hunt, Terry Spring mould. How old was he, how long did he play for. Do you have a more detailed history of him.
