Have only just found this site, great comments- really interesting, hope I can add and answer a few questions.I was the first artist to draw 'Guts to be a goalie' in August 1976, but printed later when' Scoop' was published, also drew
'Pickford who was the recurring Gypsy character.
I cannot remember all the strips in the first issue, as I probably started working with Pete Clark [editor] 6 months before publication,as well as'Ben' and 'Pickford' I drew 'Have
boots will travel'[ Jon Stark] really enjoyed that one! also 'Speed Kings'
I did have a complete set of 'Scoop' but leant them to some
idiot who was going to combine all the different football stories from D.C.T and I.P.C- never saw them again.
Incidentally,Tony Harding drew 'Bobby of the Blues' I drew 'Jack and Jimmy' he was best man at my wedding ,sadly passed away last year.
Hope this has been of some interest, especially to Grandad Godsen [hope I got that right] I think we must be about the same age! My name is Barrie Mitchell.
